I’m pretty picky about worship music, because I think we should be. I think the vast majority of worship music out today (quite frankly) is crap. It’s either too “rocked out” like a Van Halen concert, too charasmatic and specifically engineered for those “magic, touching moments”, too weird when the song repeats “I love you” forty-seven times in a row, or so theologically intense that 3 verses later you’re still thinking about verse one and how substitutionary atonement ended up in a song.
So, for that reason I am personally grateful for worship leaders who write worship songs that draw us to the Cross and focus our attention on Christ. Not sure who I might be talking about? Here are a few links to some worship leaders I am grateful for.
- Sovereign Grace Ministries
- Getty Music
- Indelible Grace
- Breakaway Ministries specifically The Spirit Moves CD - Great stuff!!
- David Ward, Cross Centered Worship - I hear the guy who recorded this album rocks!
I agree that a lot of christian music is difficult for me to understand what the artist is trying to accomplish through the song. That being said I always keep in mind that while I prefer a guitar in a worship band some prefer no instruments. Thus, picky is not a correct attitude, nor is it justifiable. I did like like the links you posted. What do you think about Hillsong. I would guess they aren’t one of your favorites. Hillsong United, United We Stand is probably my favorite album. By the way I love the style of the Chillies and Rage, but rarely listen to it for the obvious reasons. Being a Christian is all about being Christ-like, which is loving and serving in everything that we do. Thanks, kj
